A Photo Text Editor Built for Designers

Most online text-on-image tools cover the basics and stop there. You can pick a font, change a colour, and slap the string on the photo. That is enough for a meme, but it is nowhere near enough for a portfolio header, a brand content piece, or any situation where someone is going to judge the typography. This editor is aimed at the second group.

Real typography controls mean you get kerning, letter spacing, line height, paragraph alignment, multiple shadow layers, stroked outlines, and the ability to stack text layers on top of each other. You can set one word in a display face and the rest in a text weight. You can run a headline over an image and have it survive on a busy background because the outline is doing actual work.

Everything runs in the browser at full resolution. That matters when you are working on a header for a blog post that will be displayed at two thousand pixels wide. Exporting from a downscaled preview ruins the whole point. Here the file you upload is the file you get back, with the type layer rendered at the same pixel density as the photo beneath it.

What Designers Actually Use It For

Portfolio headers are the most common use case. You have a photo that sells the project and you need a title over it that does not scream stock template. Proper kerning on the headline, a considered weight contrast between title and subtitle, and a shadow that is barely there but just enough to lift the type off a mid-grey sky. That takes five minutes here and would take the same five minutes plus a twenty-minute file-open dance in Photoshop.

Micro-brand owners use it for product photography captions. You have the shot from the photographer and you need the product name and price to sit on the image for a landing page hero or a paid ad. A brand designer building in the browser can keep a consistent letter spacing across product lines without rebuilding the master file every time something changes.

Bloggers with a design sensibility use it for hero images and pull quotes inside posts. The typography has to match the feel of the blog, which usually means the opposite of whatever preset the blog platform ships with. A serif display face kerned properly, against a soft-focus photo, with generous negative space, is a look you cannot get from the default image tools in any CMS.

How to Use Layered Photo Text Editing

  1. 1Upload the photo at its full working resolution. Do not downscale first because you lose headroom.
  2. 2Add your first text layer for the headline. Pick a display face and set the size on a visual scale.
  3. 3Fine-tune kerning and letter spacing. Most display faces need tightening at large sizes.
  4. 4Add a second layer for subtitle or supporting text. Set it in a text weight with looser spacing.
  5. 5Export at full resolution. The rendered file keeps the photo quality and the type sharpness.

Questions from Designers

Is this a replacement for Photoshop for text work?

For single headline or caption tasks, yes. You get the controls you actually reach for, which are kerning, letter spacing, stacked layers, and clean shadow and outline effects. What you do not get is raster editing, masking, or advanced blending modes. For typography-only jobs the trade is almost always worth it because the file never has to open.

Can I control kerning between specific letter pairs?

Global letter spacing is available on every text layer. Pair-by-pair manual kerning is not exposed in the web interface because the use cases are rare and the workflow slow. For ninety percent of headline work, global spacing plus a good display face with proper built-in kerning gets you there.

Does the editor support custom fonts?

A curated selection of quality typefaces is built in, covering display serifs, modern sans, editorial grotesques, and a few distinct scripts. Custom font upload is not supported in the free tool to keep the browser footprint manageable, but the built-in list covers the vast majority of real design work.

Will I lose image quality on export?

No. The export renders at the full original pixel dimensions of the uploaded photo, then composites the text layers on top at the same density. There is no intermediate downscale. If you uploaded a three thousand pixel file, you get a three thousand pixel file back with the type sharp.

Can I save a template to reuse for a series?

Not in the free tool. For repeatable templated work across a series of photos, the main EasyCarousels app has 500 templates plus custom preset saving. The single-tool editors are optimised for one-off edits where you do not need to come back to the same setup tomorrow.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The editor is touch-native, so dragging text, pinching to resize, and two-finger rotation all work. The typography precision is better on desktop because a pointer gives you finer control, but a phone session is enough for most single-layer work.
